Hello Caitlin,
Thank you for reaching out! The good news is our industry is always evolving and there are several different professional options to help reduce scarring and discoloration. Without seeing the scar or knowing your skin type and personal regimen it is difficult to give you an exact answer.
There are topical at home options as well as professional treatments that can greatly reduce scarring. I find a combination of both is ideal with your esthetician being able to see and treat your skin while making sure you are on a regimen that will get you the results you are looking for.
Common ingredients you will find for hyperpigmentation include arbutin, licorice root, mulberry, hexylresorcinol, azelaic acid, as well as several different peptides. If you are treating discoloration in addition to texture there are professional treatments options like chemical peels, microneedling, laser etc. Wearing SPF every day will help in any further discoloration and will be a key step when you are treating the scar.
Warmly,
Rebecca OlpinSorella Apothecary
