Reigniting Passions

Written by

As each year dawns, we find ourselves compelled to make New Year’s resolutions. Typically, we choose to lose weight, quit a bad habit, or build up funds in the savings account. While all of those are excellent resolutions, what about your career? What commitments will you make towards your future?

This January, I challenge you to set a New Year’s resolution for your career. Since most of us get caught up in the day to day grind at work, here are some ideas to help keep your career moving forward.
One of my mentors always reminds me to continue developing my situational awareness as it aids in everything I do. Dan Miller from Monster says, “Treat every workday like a school day. Be sure to learn something and use it to make yourself more productive. It doesn’t have to relate to your skill set." Be aware of what is going on around you, especially the feelings of your clients and co-workers.
By joining a professional association, you increase the opportunity to network with your peers and surround yourself with like-minded people. DERMASCOPE.com has a community specifically for aestheticians to communicate with one another. We have seasoned professionals available to network with, learn from, and help solve problems. There are many benefits to being part of a larger group.
The aesthetics industry is constantly evolving. Every year, new techniques are discovered or improved upon. Take advantage of tradeshows and workshops to further your knowledge on new modalities and procedures. Continue furthering your education and proving to your clients that you are passionate and devoted to being the best.
Excel at your job! Remaining engaged in your work is critical to furthering your career. Look for ways to freshen up tired spaces and rudimentary activities. Schedule a creative meeting with your supervisor or employees to discuss ideas to highlight specific products or services.
Communication is critical. Do not leave people waiting or wondering what to expect from you. If you are working on a project, always ask yourself what information will be helpful to others, then be forthcoming.
Today is the first day of the rest of your life! Every day you get another chance to improve upon the person you were yesterday. Just reminding yourself of this can be a mental boost. In celebrating this New Year, reignite the passion that started you down this career path.
