PHRC 2016: The Lone Star Edition

Written by

Aesthetics International Association (AIA) exhibited at the International Congress of Esthetics & Spa (ICES) in Dallas, Texas and sponsored continuing education classes for the annual Professional Hair Removal Conference (PHRC).

The three-day PHRC event was hosted by Michelle De Leon and offered 15 classes and 18 continuing education hours. This year, an amazing group of educators shared their experience and knowledge from their field of expertise. On Saturday, May 14th, Richard Maher discussed the healing benefits of LED light therapy and Dr. LaTasha Jarret talked about the facts and complications involved with clients who suffer from polycystic ovarian syndrome. Bendu Colman informed attendees about alarming HIV and STI statistics, while Marty Hall explained the importance of proper posture for a practitioner. Jesse Cormier talked about lessons she has learned from spa mishaps and DeLeon spoke about the bottom line and creating a brand.
On Sunday, May 15th, Dawn Raye emphasized the importance of the client’s comfort and positioning, Lina Kennedy discussed safe and effective protocols for hair removal on ethnic skin and the benefits of sugaring, and Dr. Lee Kinsey discussed hair and the joy of self- expression. DeLeon simplified the ever-changing laser hair removal rules and regulations in Texas and Jack Dunn gave a lecture and demonstration of men’s intimate waxing.
On Monday, May 16th, attendees learned about client retention from Kathleen Carney. They also heard about the current OSHA regulatory standards from Arlene Lamont and gathered tips and tricks for the perfect Brazilian from Deanna Derthick.
To the PHRC sponsors, AIA would like to extend a big Texas-sized thank you for helping to make PHRC possible! AIA greatly values your support and loyalty to this wonderful industry. This year’s platinum sponsor was Society for Clinical & Medical Hair Removal (SCMHR); the gold sponsor was Alexandria Professional. Silver sponsors included Aesthetics Laser Academy, Silhouet Tone, and the Associated Skin Care Professionals. Silhouet Tone graciously donated the equipment used during the live waxing and sugaring demonstrations.
