A Must-Have Mentor

Written by   Amanda Strunk Miller

In our industry, it is of great importance to a skin care professional's successful journey to have a mentor to guide them. Mentors provide invaluable information, expertise, and understanding. They offer insight on what it takes to advance, guidance on improving knowledge and skill, and opportunities and resources for building a strong and successful network.

Aesthetics International Association has accrued the largest bank of accumulated knowledge available anywhere in our industry. We call this group the Academy of Legends, reading as a list of "who's who" in the skin care industry.

The mission of the Academy of Legends is to uphold the leadership of the industry as mentors and role models for educating, empowering, and advancing our profession. This extensive group of talented individuals consists of educators, manufacturers, distributors, consultants, and spa owners – the movers and shakers who built the road upon which we travel. These pioneers serve as resources to the membership-at-large and are constantly representatives and promoters of AIA and the aesthetic industry as a whole.

With criteria for selection, AIA has established that all inductees to the Academy of Legends must have: been active in aesthetics a minimum of 20 years; contributed to the benefit of the masses by serving as a role model and mentor, thereby raising the standards of our profession; gained the respect of their peers by maintaining professional standards exemplary of leadership; be considered honorable by their colleagues; and furthered the consumer awareness of our profession.quote

This month, DERMASCOPE introduces its newest Legend to the Academy: Michelle D'Allaird-Brenner. Michelle owns Aesthetic Science Institute in New York, an aesthetic school that prepares graduates for their career in the skin, makeup, and nail industry. She is a CIDESCO diplomat, world-renowned educator, and speaker. She also consults and educates international cosmetic companies and provides skin care and product training to over 30 countries! Michelle is a major contributor to our industry and makes it a priority to give back and further the growth of professionals.

If you have not established a mentor yet, finding one is essential to a well-rounded, successful career in our industry. Until then, let DERMASCOPE help you out. In this issue, Michelle's story begins on page 112. Then, be sure to check out the entire collected catalogue of Legends on DERMASCOPE.com.
