In 2016, men’s skin care and hair products brought in more than $19 billion globally. As men become more conscious and knowledgeable about their skin, skin care manufacturers and professionals are offering more products and treatments that are tailored to men. The following are a few game changing ingredients that are beneficial for men’s skin: BACILLUS SUBTILIS Bacillus subtilis is a bacterium that is commonly found on the skin and in the digestive tract. It is also found on human extremities and in livestock and soil. Because of its universal presence, Bacillus subtilis has adaptive tactics for surviving in diverse environments through the creation, and secretion, of genetically encoded molecules that regulate the growth of nearby organisms. This bacterium produces subtilisin, a proteolytic enzyme, which acts as an exfoliant for the skin. HYALURONIC ACID Hyaluronic acid, a glycosaminoglycan found naturally in the body, attracts and holds large amounts of moisture. Because of its ability to penetrate the skin, hyaluronic acid aids in its moisture-replenishing efforts. For example, one gram of hyaluronic acid can hold as much as six liters of water. When used in skin care products, the ingredient provides anti-aging, hydrating, and antioxidant properties for the skin. NIACINAMIDE Niacinamide, which is also known as vitamin B3, helps to improve the appearance of uneven skin tone, fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores, and dullness. This ingredient is made from niacin, which is found in cells and tissue that are metabolically active. Because of its cell-renewing properties, niacinamide is often used as a skin-brightening agent. It is also thought to stimulate dermis cells to produce more collagen, giving the skin a youthful appearance.Want to read more? Subscribe to one of our monthly plans to continue reading this article.
