As temperatures rise and sun exposure lengthens, the importance of proper skin protection from harmful ultraviolet rays is increasingly more prevalent. While the need for sun protection is widely accepted and commonly practiced in most daily skin care routines, new advancements in sun protection options are also available to lessen the effects of ultraviolet radiation to skin.

If a quality sun protection factor (SPF) product is not already part of a client’s daily skin care regimen, now is the time to include one. The harmful effects of sun exposure are widely known and are more pervasive than ever. Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States and the best way to prevent developing skin issues in the first place is by protecting skin from oxidative stress, skin damage, and DNA mutations caused by harmful ultraviolet rays. Each time skin is exposed to direct sunlight, you’re damaging your skin’s DNA. Just one hour of ultraviolet exposure damages skin’s DNA. That is why practicing effective sun safety measures is crucial to protecting skin when spending time outdoors.
