Recipe Box: Backbar Hydrating Mask

Written by   Melissa Picoli, L.E., founder of BijaBody health+beauty

The backbar hydrating mask can be used after facials as a nourishing mask base, or it can be applied to hands after a manicure to create a more thorough skin care treatment rather than just nail care. It is a backbar must and a perfect addition to any skin calming or anti-aging treatment. This luxurious combination is rich in botanical oils proven to regenerate tissue, enhance collagen health, reduce scarring and provide antioxidant protection.

You can make larger batches and send them home with little vials to use two weeks after any treatment that might involve flaking, redness or irritation. This blend is rich in naturally occurring trans-retinoic acid which provides the same benefits as prescription strength tretinoin without side effects. Essential fatty acids, including linolenic and alpha-linolenic acid and vitamin E, are all crucial for building strong skin. Rosehip seed oil is scientifically proven to dramatically reduce hyperpigmentation and increase collagen health, and rice bran oil has been shown to provide naturally-occuring sunscreen effect. The apricot kernel oil is a carrier base which is nourishing for the skin and helps to manage costs. Geranium and rose essential oil ground beautifully with frankincense and myrrh, providing aromatherapy and tissue health benefits.

Ingredients:

  • 1oz. rosehip seed oil
  • 1oz. rice bran oil
  • 1oz. apricot kernel oil
  • 5 drops rose essentail oil
  • 3 drops geranium essential oil
  • 5 drops frankincense
  • 5 drops myrrh

Directions:
In a four ounce amber colored glass vial with dropper, combine all of the ingredients. Shake well. Always use with dropper to prevent contamination and be sure to keep the oil away from direct heat or sunlight. If properly stored, this oil will last up to six months and add a beautiful, effective signature to your treatments without adding significant cost.

To Use:
Finishing Treatment: Use to finish any facial or manicure treatment, directly on skin. Will immediately calm skin and support healing from peels or laser treatments.
Hydrating Mask: Combine a few drops into any hydrating mask to increase skin care benefits, or apply alone during massage. It can also be mixed with rhassoul clay as a regenerative, calming treatment. (Rhassoul does not absorb oil as other clays, and will allow skin to absorb nutrients.)
Beautifying Hand-Soak: Add 10 drops to warm soak water and allow client to submerge hands for 10 minutes. Follow with a massage before finishing nails.
