Healthy Corner: Motivation Can Change Everything

Written by   Suki Kramer, founder, formulator, and president of  suki® skincare

Motivation is personal and complex. It is what provides people with the desire to do anything. It can fuel one person to get up every day, work the same job, and go home to the same activities while, for another person, this routine would be a nightmare.

For the latter person, perhaps each day starts before the sun rises and does not end until the very early hours of the next morning. Perhaps another will do absolutely everything necessary to turn their dreams into reality, including pounding the pavement for a job they want, aggressively stepping up when they get there, making necessary sacrifices and risks, and doing whatever is necessary to turn what some might see as a ridiculous idea or an idealistic vision into a reality. For others, motivation may be showing up, despite an injury or a personal challenge, to practice their craft for multiple hours a week, for years
on end.
Influencing motivation levels can be done at any time by influencing thoughts, writing a plan of attack for any goal in mind, creating strict regimens, and retraining the brain to battle any negative thoughts that try to get in the way. All of these steps are great preparation for the reality of the next response: taking action. The real work is the simple act of getting up every day and facing the reality (sometimes drudgery)
of practicing.
Motivation waxes and wanes depending on how much someone practices self-care. Motivations and experiences can push a person to risk doing something daring, or even ridiculous, like starting a business, becoming a ballroom dance student at the age of 43, or anything else that motivates someone in their own life. Whether it is the perfect dance step, getting products carried in a spa, or even being featured in a magazine, it is absolutely worth the effort not only because of the end result, but also because of all the things that can be learned about the self along the way and the changes the experiences bring about.
