Skin Care Myth: Pumping your mascara wand in and out of its tube causes the product to dry.

Written by   Chad Hayduk, co-founder of Three Custom Color Specialists

Facts:

True. Pumping your mascara wand will cause your mascara to dry out faster by introducing more air than needed into the tube. When pulling out the wand, do not pump, but rather twist the wand in order to minimize the trapped air for as long as possible. In addition, each pump also adds bacteria to the wand. The germs then fester when sealed in the closed, humid tube. Mascara does contain antibacterial properties, but a proper regimen includes replacing mascara after three or four months (or sooner) if you notice it thickening.
