Skin Care MYTHS: There are only two types of wrinkles.

Written by   Monique Enriquez, C.N.H.P., anti-aging skin therapist

STATEMENT:

There are only two types of wrinkles.

Facts:

Aging is a natural biological and physiological process that occurs as time passes. How this aging occurs and manifests itself on the skin is an indication of a person’s genetic code, lifestyle behavior, and outside environmental aggressors.

When looking at skin aging and determining what type of wrinkles are present on the skin, the skin care professional should base their findings and solutions on whether these wrinkles are a byproduct of a chrono-biological, hormonal, or behavioral manifestation.

The key to maintaining youthful-looking skin is prevention and education for any age, race, and gender. However, if damage has already occurred, it is never too late to correct and improve a client’s skin quality and health.

We live in times of massively-saturated skin care and beauty industries promoting and selling various types of skin care products, treatments, and machines that claim to take years off clients or guarantee results to reverse the signs of aging. In order to maintain high standards in the skin care industry, skin care professionals must practice with ethical professionalism versus promoting a miracle anti-aging solution and making false unrealistic promises.

Therefore, knowing how wrinkles are formed at different ages of a client’s life cycle, what type of anti-aging active ingredients are most effective, along with formula concentrations and the delivery system into the skin’s own biological processes, can set skin care professionals apart and help deliver effective and results-driven skin care solutions for clients.
