Mara Shorr, B.S., CAC II-VI, serves as the company’s vice president of marketing and business development. She is level II-VI certified aesthetic consultant, utilizing her knowledge and experience to help clients achieve their potential. She is also a national speaker and writer.1. In one word, describe yourself! Ambitious 2. Who is your role model and why? My parents! I come from a home of divorced parents, and I’m grateful that’s brought me twice as many strong role models when it comes to how to conduct myself, strive for big, bold goals and not let a glass ceiling stop me because of my gender. My father, Jay Shorr, and I are actually business partners, and I stand by what I tell people every day: partnering with him in our company, Shorr Solutions, is the smartest business move I’ve ever made. 3. What’s your personal mantra? Good things comes to those who hustle. 4. What’s your biggest guilty pleasure? I really, really love watching reality television on Bravo. 5. How do you spend most of your time? Running our company. But it’s not work when you love what you do, right? 6. Favorite type of skin care product? Why? I just can’t choose! I live in Florida, so I wear a moisturizer with an SPF all year long. I’m blessed to have great relationships with a few skincare lines who let me know when new products come to market. I’d rather have great skin than a face full of makeup. 7. What’s something most people don’t know about you? When I’m not in heels, lecturing at national conferences or spending time in our clients’ offices, my hands are probably covered in dirt in my garden. 8. How would you describe your leadership style and how has it benefited you throughout your career? Lead by example. Show your team your passions and continue to teach long after day one. If you continue to train your team and empower them to make smart decisions, they’ll show you what they’re capable of. 9. What’s most important to your business: mission, core values, or vision? Why? All of the above! They all link together in one form or another, and you can’t have one without the other. 10. What’s one characteristic you believe every leader should possess? Why? A passion for the industry and a plan to get you there. As leaders, we often feel that things will come to us through passion alone, but we say in our company all the time that you can’t get where you’re going if you don’t have a map to get there. 11. What are the biggest trends in the spa industry? Technology is playing a bigger part than ever before in what’s possible for our clients and patients. It’s fascinating to watch as the industry continues to evolve and change each year. 12. What is the biggest challenge facing the industry today? With social media playing a strong presence in the daily lives of patients and clients, we find that our industry is chasing perfection now more than ever. While this increases business for our clients, we find that the ability for clients and patients to leave unjust or false reviews is problematic.
