July 2012

Written by

Our skin, like our heart, lungs and kidneys, is an organ. Actually, as most of you are aware, it is the largest organ in the human body. Sadly, however, most people take their skin for granted, not even realizing everything it does for them; that is until a problem arises! But our skin has a crucial job to do. Not only does it literally hold us together it is constantly protecting us; fighting off infections so the body can remain healthy and strong.

Therefore, just like when you thank someone for taking care of you when you are sick – you should show your skin the same courtesy. Why? Well, as skin care professionals you know that when you take care of your skin, you are in effect helping it do its job and helping prevent future problems from occurring – like skin cancer and wrinkles.
I am sure you are wondering why I have just spent an entire paragraph discussing characteristics about skin that you already know. It is simple … a lot of your clients do not know or even realize these plain facts; which is why our July issue is focusing on body therapy. Everyone loves to visit a spa for a relaxing facial, but not everyone indulges in receiving a body treatment. Knowledge is key and this is where you, the skin care professional, play an important role in educating your clients on the benefits of treating the whole body – and DERMASCOPE is here to help!
Throughout the articles in this issue, body treatments are provided and discussed by authors who bestow their in-depth knowledge on new in-demand lightening and brightening treatments for your service menu; the history of stone therapy and how it can nurture not only your client's body but your practice as well; Ayurvedic muds and flours used to cleanse and detoxify the skin; and sugaring treatments for dealing with ingrown hair to facial therapy. It is my hope that the articles within this issue inspire you to take a look at your current treatment menu and the current measures you are taking to help educate your clientele on the benefits of pampering their entire body.
As I have mentioned before, one of our goals here at DERMASCOPE is to provide our readers with the most current and relevant information available in the industry; thereby assisting the aesthetics professional in gaining a true understanding of our profession, our customers and our potential. Over the course of the last couple of months, several changes and renovations have taken place within the pages of our magazine, all made in an effort to intrigue and inspire our readers – providing each and every one of you with what you need to succeed. So, let me hear from you! How are we doing? What would you like to see more or less of? What topics would you like for us to cover? Your suggestions and comments are welcome so please e-mail me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. I look forward to hearing from you!

Best regards,
