When Health Meets Beauty

There are many different causes of aging; one of the biggest is sun damage. The lack of a healthy lifestyle also plays a large role in premature aging. An increasing number of scientific articles are being published that show how regularly consuming unhealthy food can make people look older, pointing out that nutritional deficiencies may increase wrinkles. As more and more studies like these are coming out, the more evident it becomes that eating well, having a relaxed lifestyle, and avoiding stress as much as possible could be the key to antiaging. It helps to practice meditation, relaxation techniques, and to focus on contentment as much as possible in life.

Blurred Lines

Twenty years ago, Dr. Khalil, the founder of VI Peel, used to say that the most powerful thing an aesthetician can do is to pop a pimple. It was, at the time, an oversimplification of an extraction, which can sometimes feel like life or death because of the emotional struggles that come with breakouts. Still, that statement held a kernel of truth – aestheticians used to have very limited options to treat skin.

Today, skin care professionals have an extraordinary number of tools, products, and treatments in their arsenal. The number of modalities, and features of these modalities, is just unbelievable, not only for the practitioner but for all the clients chasing the idea of feeling beautiful.

There is a new therapy available in just a handful of wellness centers to date in the form of a computer-controlled lamp system used to induce hypnagogic light experiences. This system was invented by two Austrian doctors, Engelbert Winkler and Dirk Proeckl, who created and patented the final prototype in 2009. Inspired by Dr. Winkler’s personal experience with near death and cemented through Dr. Proeckl’s work as a neurologist, “light travel” was born. Described as a state of consciousness between wakefulness and sleep, hypnagogia is what occurs in the brain under the lamp system.

Skin care is a balancing act. Skin care professionals must evaluate what skin lacks, what it produces in excess, and the appropriate combination of treatments to catalyze glowing equilibrium. The hiring process works the same way; business owners or managers must appraise their teams, decide what gaps to fill, and then hunt for the ideal candidate. The right person in the proper position can breathe new life into the workspace. The question is, how does one choose the right person?

Matrisome Maintenance

When formulating hydrating products, the latest research requires the formulator to consider the extracellular matrix which provides skin with its major hydration properties.1 This complex network of proteins that comprise the extracellular matrix is now referred to as the matrisome.2 Among these matrisome proteins, collagen is most abundant. Its specific amino acid sequence provides essential functions which can impact the aging process and influence the extracellular matrix and the matrisome as a whole.

Hydration Harmony

Every day is a great day for hydration. Whether hydrating the body through increased water consumption or hydrating skin for its optimal health, the skin care professional knows the importance of preventing dehydration and dryness. Fueling Up

When it comes to skin care, most people look for a miracle in a bottle – the latest and greatest in ingredient technology that offers a quick fix or immediate results. The truth is that the most powerful tool clients have is their nutrition and water intake. It is a well-known fact that water and food intake alone will not solve every skin concern; however, it is a great place to start when it comes to overall health and functioning of the body. One of the most important and biggest jobs of skin is protection from things like bacteria invasion, ultraviolet damage, and other outside stressors the body may be exposed to. When it comes to the care of the skin barrier, keeping moisture content in check is key to allow cells to renew and continue to do their job. After all, skin is the largest organ of the body, and it needs to be fueled and taken care of like any other organ.

Glow On

Great philosophers have debated the concept of beauty and what defines it throughout history. Is it subjective, influenced by one’s personal taste, or objective, influenced by others? Although many great minds may not agree on what is aesthetically pleasing, philosophers generally agree that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. What attracts someone is cumulative of not just the physical but the mind, body, and soul collectively.

Regardless of how one defines beauty, there are signs that the human body displays outwardly that are a direct reflection of what is going on internally. The goal to obtain glowing skin goes beyond physical appearance. Glowing skin is a sign of health and wellness, the fountain of youth. The main responsibility of skin is protection. It acts as a first line of defense against the outside world.
