Team Spirit: Cultivating A Positive Work Culture

Written by

Work culture, or organizational culture, refers to the shared values, behaviors, beliefs and practices that characterize an organization. Work culture sets the tone for how work is done and shapes the overall employee experiences at the workplace. A positive workplace culture can greatly impact the success of the business as it can attract talent, create engagement among team members, and positively affect overall happiness of employees. In the spa, this translates to employee satisfaction and retention, productivity and efficiency, innovation, and a good client experience. Conversely, a negative work culture can create unhealthy behaviors and attitudes which can significantly lower employee morale and impact the success of the business.

CULTURE COUNTS

Employees who are supported and enjoy their work environment often feel more valued and respected. In return, their loyalty is strong, making it more likely that they will stay in their role and contribute positively. Employees who are happy naturally want to work harder and be more productive.

Clients feel the energy and tone of the environment as soon as they walk through the door, so it is important to cultivate positivity among team members. Additionally, a healthy work culture fosters teamwork and cooperation. This is especially important in a spa environment where different services need to be coordinated. For example, the front-desk team are the first to greet clients and inform their provider of their arrival. They are the first point of contact for the business and lay the foundation for the client’s experience. It is important that the front-desk team is trained to answer any questions about all services and can communicate any concerns the client may have to the service provider. After their service, the front-desk team can check in with the client, provide information and suggestions for at-home products, and offer a rebooking option.

The team must be able to work together to communicate effectively and ensure a seamless experience for the client from their arrival to when they depart the spa. Team building activities are a great way to promote teamwork and camaraderie as employees work toward common goals. It also helps improve communication and complete team cohesiveness, creating a supportive and positive work culture.
