The visible pores on the surface of skin are hair follicles, and when those follicles become blocked, acne can develop on the face, neck, back, and chest. Acne has three causes, including c. acnes bacteria proliferation inside the hair follicle, overactive sebaceous (oil) glands discharging sebum into the hair follicle, or abnormal shedding of dead skin cells within the hair follicle where the cells become trapped instead of rising to the surface of skin and shedding off.
