Growing evidence shows that foods, especially plant-based food, can play a role in the war against breast cancer. Plant-based foods in particular may help fight cancer due to the large amount of phytonutrients they contain. Berries – While all berries contain cancer-fighting phytonutrients, black raspberries, in particular, contain a very high concentration of anthocyanins. These phytochemicals slow down the growth of premalignant cells and keep new blood vessels from forming and potentially feeding a cancerous tumor. Pomegranates – Early research into the pomegranate’s role in combating cancer suggests that the fruit contains a compound, ellagic acid, that might help contest cancer’s growth (estrogen-dependent cancers in particular). Spinach – In addition to being one of the healthiest foods on the planet, spinach is also a cancer-fighting food. Like berries, spinach contain large amounts of phytonutrients. Studies show that the more spinach eaten on a regular basis, the lower the chance of getting cancer across the board.
