Bold Eyebrows

Written by

An eyebrow that has never been tweezed, waxed, threaded, or altered in any way has approximately 550 hairs per eyebrow; they are bold, beautiful, and youthful. On the other hand, a groomed eyebrow has approximately 250 hairs. Today, there are clients with thinning eyebrows due to hormonal changes, medications, and illnesses. While a non-defined eyebrow can age the client, bold and beautiful eyebrows add a flair of fashion and youth. With hair extensions and eyelash extensions becoming more prevalent, eyebrows need to be stronger and bolder to create a balance and frame for the eyes.

Professionals need to keep up with fashion and be able to enhance their clients' eyebrows, making them bold and beautiful and helping to create confidence and build self-esteem. For both aestheticians and makeup artists, offering eyebrow enhancement services will aid in client retention and increase income.

Eyebrow Terminology
The eyebrow can be divided into three moveable parts: the head, the body, and the tail. The head can be round, square, or angled. The body includes the arch, which can be high, medium, low, or flat. The tail is the end of the eyebrow and can be slightly up, straight, or down; many clients are lacking a tail on their eyebrow, which can be easily fixed with the drop-in eyebrows. The average eyebrow measures 1 to 2 inches long; the proper way to measure the length of the eyebrow is to start at the beginning of the head and end at the last hair of the tail.

The hairs in the head of the eyebrow that grow straight up are called the tuffed hair. Many people remove these hairs, causing the eyebrows to look too far apart. Terminal hair is the course, highly-pigmented hair that has three stages; anagen, catagen, and telogen. If a drop of blood has ever been seen while tweezing, that hair was in its anagen stage. Vellus hairs are often referred to as peach fuzz and help makeup stay on. They can be tinted to create a bolder eyebrow.
